The artists:
Agnes is an artist based in Lauder. She has always been interested in art, art history, design and creativity, and since retiring and moving to the Scottish Borders in 2006 she has led a productive and educational pursuit in painting and textiles. She is active in the local community and art groups, and regularly displays her work at local exhibitions.
Originally from Glasgow, Agnes has lived and worked in and around Edinburgh and has lived in the Scottish Borders for almost two decades. She has followed a non-traditional route to being an artist, and enjoys experimenting with different materials and techniques, preferring to push her own boundaries and never stay in a comfortable zone.
She has travelled extensively, enjoys a very active lifestyle, and manages to find time to develop and promote her own work. Relaxation comes in the form of gardening, and activities with friends and family in Scotland, the UK and Europe.
Much of Agnes's artwork forms collections of paintings, drawings or other work. These projects can cover days or weeks, or longer, depending on the subject, the complexity and the inspiration.
Landscape and weather — Changeable and changing Scottish Borders landscapes impress on us the presence and power that the weather brings to the land, those who tend it, and those who benefit from the growth.
Abstract series 100 — Texture adds complexity and interest. Impressed by the movements of clouds, of trees, of the rain, and of people and animals in the surrounding urban and rural areas, this project attempts to capture the complexity and mutability of my own engendered emotions of the things that surround me and influence me.
Flowering — At night, the daisies riot.
Agnes has exhibited at the Firebrick Brasserie in Lauder, with the support of the owners, Amanda and Dave. Some original paintings are available to buy; others are available as framed prints or posters.
